Beginning in 2008... the Campfire Legends Society honors generous friends who provide estate gifts to strengthen The Museum of Western Art, preserving the heritage and art of the American West.

Recognized in Europe and across the United States, Eanger Couse (1866-1936) helped establish the Taos Society of Artists.

Understanding that preserving America’s cultural treasures requires dedication and financial resources, the Board of Directors invites you to consider making a planned gift to the Museum of Western Art. If you own fine art that would enhance the Museum’s collection, we would consider it a privilege to help your family craft a charitable donation to occur through your will and give your collection a larger viewing audience. Our staff can also explain many other options, from a simple bequest of a specified percentage or amount of your estate... to a life insurance gift... to a variety of popular life income gifts. (These provide annual distributions to the donors and then, at their deaths, leave the remainder in the fund to assist the Museum.)

The Museum does not require donors to disclose specific details of their estate plans. Instead, we ask for a simple letter that states a family’s intention to include the Museum of Western Art in their estate plan.  Of course, we will also be delighted to help you create a plan to further your philanthropic goals—from sharing a prized collectible to establishing a permanent endowment for a specific purpose.

Symbols of Membership
The Museum of Western Art is fortunate to have the assistance of nationally-acclaimed jeweler and engraver, Clint Orms. Clint has graciously designed the symbols of membership for the Campfire Legends Society.

"We love the Museum and want to do everything we can to help it preserve our Western heritage. We are pleased to join the Campfire Legends Society because we know that—combined with others—our estate gift enables the Museum to plan confidently for a strong and exciting future."

Three Funds for our Future

Permanent Endowment
This fund is never spent, but invested for safety and growth. Annual income from endowment can be spent for operating and capital projects.

Cultural Enrichment
Gifts to this fund help the Museum plan with confidence the expansion of services, facilities and collections.

Greatest Need
A flexible fund which gives the Board of Directors the responsibility to use gifts to this fund wherever they are most needed at the time. These gifts may or may not be spent immediately.
