“The July 4th tragedy will always be remembered. Many of the lives lost were from outside the area who came to visit or attend summer camp, but we also lost beloved members of our own community. It’s been reported that over 2,000 properties have been affected, which will no doubt cause many families to face financial hardships for years as they build back. For this reason, we’ve created our MoWA Children’s Summer Art Camp Scholarship Program for flood victim families. Online registration to attend either of our week-long summer art camps will be available soon, based on a space available basis. “This is an affordable program. where people can have a direct and meaningful impact on a child’s life,” Beauchamp says. He reflects back to the words of renowned American painter Georgia O’Keeffe who once said, “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”  Beauchamp sees this as a reflection of art’s power to heal and another reason the camp was created.

At a recent Museum function, Beauchamp introduced the art camp to a crowd of over 75 attendees, all who were enthusiastic about the project and many who wished to be involved. “We’re so touched that not only our community but our museum supporters and artist friends from around the country have reached out wanting to be a part of our tribute program, even in a small way.” “We believe the Children’s Summer Camp Art Scholarship Fund is an affordable way for someone to have a direct and meaningful impact. Each $50 donation will allow one child to have a week at our camp, providing them with a creative outlet in a supportive environment. Families can apply online to determine eligibility. Beauchamp adds, “We believe this is one small but meaningful way we can help children continue the healing process.”
