WORKSHOPS
"Sculpting the Western Horse and Rider"
INSTRUCTOR JASON SCULL
3 Day Workshop, October 11-13, 2026 • 9am - 4pm
Medium: oil based clay
All levels welcome
As the title of this workshop states, this class will explore the sculpting of the horse and rider as they relate to the American West. Working from the live model, we will be covering relatable scale in our work: that of the human figure and the horse. We will cover armature construction that will allow greater freedom when sculpting horses, cattle and other quadrupeds, the application of clay and attention to anatomical correctness. Expect instructor demonstrations and one on one attention. The goal is for participants to leave inspired and with more than they came with.
Day One: we will begin by covering the relative proportion of the human figure and that of the horse, learning to scale one to the other. Next, we will delve into armature construction and have an instructor demonstration sculpting the horse. In the afternoon we will be working from the model. Q and A
Day Two: working on sculpting with interaction from the instructor without the model. Demonstration of saddle construction and sculpting the mounted figure. Q and A
Day Three: continue sculpting with instructor interaction. Q and A
Tuition $450
Includes lunch each day
