WORKSHOPS

VALUE DOES THE WORK - COLOR GETS THE CREDIT
T.W. “POPS” VANYA

3 Day Workshop, March 11-13, 2026

This workshop is tailored to all levels of painters. The class begins with a critique of a few works provided by each student. (If you
have never painted bring 2/3 of any type of art you have created.) This helps the instructor get a feel of a student’s level of experience. This class is built around starting a work of art, selecting a subject, how to lay out ones palette and a discussion of color theory, design, preparatory drawings, choices of materials (paints, surfaces, tools of the trade (brushes, palettes, knives, easels, etc.)

There will be special emphasis on the value of the paint colors you choose; how light or how dark. One of the most boring exercises one can subject oneself to is a painting with nothing but mid toned values. It is one of the primary reasons painting fail! They fail to attract attention, they fail to sell, they fail to
inspire, they fail to capture the viewers emotions! So, we will be starting a painting, blocking in, and moving to a finished work. We will also touch on framing and how it can make or break the reception of the work.

Tuition $450
